In this post, we want to talk about one of the most traditional Halloween costumes: the skeleton. Of course, it symbolizes death, they will say. The funny thing about the skeleton is that, as a symbol, it is very paradoxical. It represents death, but also life, as it is the support of the body. Without a skeleton, we could not move, and if we have fragile bones, our life expectancy decreases considerably. It is our base, what we are in the most intimate and deep.
The skeleton is the proof that at some point we exist. That is another of its paradoxical aspects: it represents the movement of life and, at the same time, the statism of death. We could say that it symbolizes memory. Without the skeletons our ancestors left behind, we would not know our origins and we would know much less about who we are.
Death is important only insofar as it makes us reflect on the value of life.
